Fresh Jamun Shots with Mint | Indian Blackberry Summer Cooler
There is something truly refreshing about a chilled glass of homemade fruit juice, especially when it is prepared with fresh seasonal fruits!
Jamun, also known as Indian Blackberry or Java Plum, is a beautiful deep purple fruit with a distinctive sweet, tangy and slightly astringent taste.
These refreshing Jamun Shots with Mint combine the natural goodness of fresh jamuns with the cooling freshness of mint leaves, a hint of lemon and a touch of black salt.
Served chilled in little shot glasses, they make a delightful welcome drink for guests or a refreshing summer treat for the family.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh, ripe jamuns (Indian blackberries)
- 8–10 fresh mint leaves (pudina)
- 1–2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder (optional)
- A pinch of black salt (kala namak)
- 1–2 teaspoons sugar or honey (optional, depending on the sweetness of the fruit)
- ½ cup chilled water, or as required
- Ice cubes
For Garnishing
- Fresh mint sprigs
- Lemon wedges
- Whole fresh jamuns
Method
1. Wash the fresh jamuns thoroughly and remove their seeds.
2. Place the deseeded jamun pulp in a blender.
3. Add the fresh mint leaves, lemon juice, black salt and roasted cumin powder.
4. Add sugar or honey if the jamuns are too tart.
5. Pour in the chilled water and blend until smooth.
6. Taste and adjust the sweetness, salt and lemon juice according to your preference.
7. For a smoother drink, strain the mixture through a sieve.
Alternatively, leave it unstrained to retain more of the fruit's natural fibre.
8. Add a few ice cubes to small serving glasses.
9. Pour the freshly prepared jamun juice into the glasses.
10. Garnish with mint sprigs, lemon wedges or fresh jamuns.
Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing homemade Jamun Shots!
Sukanya's Super Steps πΏ
- Choose ripe jamuns: Deep purple, ripe jamuns give the best natural colour and flavour.
- Fresh mint makes the difference: A few mint leaves add a wonderful cooling freshness without overpowering the jamun.
- Balance the flavours: Jamuns can be naturally tart and astringent. A little black salt and lemon juice enhance their flavour.
- Avoid excess water: For rich, flavourful jamun shots, use just enough water to blend the fruit.
- Keep it natural: Avoid artificial colours and flavours. Let the gorgeous purple colour of fresh jamuns shine!
- Serve chilled: Prepare the juice shortly before serving for the freshest taste.
Serving Suggestions πΉ
Serve chilled Jamun Shots in small, transparent shot glasses (50–75 ml) to highlight their beautiful deep purple colour.
For the Glass Rim: Mix a little black salt, fine sugar and roasted cumin powder.
Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of each glass and gently dip it into the mixture for a delightful *khatta-meetha* touch.
Add a few ice cubes, pour in the chilled jamun juice and garnish with fresh mint leaves or a lemon wedge.
Arrange the glasses on a tray with fresh jamuns, mint sprigs and lemon wedges.
Sukanya's Super Tip πΏ
Prepare the rims in advance, but add ice and juice just before serving to prevent dilution.
A little shot of purple perfection - tangy, refreshing and beautifully presented!π
A Little Goodness in Every Shot!!!
Jamuns contain naturally occurring antioxidants, including anthocyanins responsible for their beautiful purple colour. They also provide some vitamin C and other beneficial plant compounds.
Adding fresh mint makes these homemade shots even more aromatic and refreshing.
A delightful way to enjoy seasonal fruit without relying on bottled juices or artificial flavours!
Simple ingredients, stunning colour and a refreshing taste, sometimes nature makes the prettiest drinks! π
