Dear Kala,
Thanks for taking the time to go through my blog. As for your query, I would like to give u a suggestion.
The most important thing is how gray your hair is....If u have only started graying u can apply henna. And it will cover the few gray hair that u have. But incase u have a lot of gray hair then what you can do is .
Make a mix of
Mehendi powder - 2 Tbs(henna powder) or u can also use the marudani(henna) leaves that would be the best.Incase you are using leaves, u have to grind them to a paste.
Awla powder - 2 tbs
Coffee powder - 1tbs
Make a decoction of tea, by brewing tea powder in water and this decoction u strain and let it cool, add this to the powders.
2 drops of eucalyptus oil so that u don't catch a cold
1tbs thick sour curd without the cream (malai)
Squeeze half a lime without the seeds, this makes you hair shine.
(Increase the proportion for longer hair)
Make a nice mixture of all this and keep in an iron vessel (Black iron vessel)
You can buy it in any Utensils shop. Keep it outside only(not in the fridge)
If you make the mixture in the afternoon then apply it only next day morning or afternoon. It should soak for so long....the next day when you see the vessel u will see that the sides of the mixture are black and so will the bottom, mix it well and then apply as usual. Ensure that your hair is not oily, lest it might not get proper colour. If you want it more black keep the mixture soaked for 2-3 days, but depends on which country u are living, incase u feel the mixture is getting fungus soon then dont add curds.
If you are prone to get colds or asthma then dont keep the mehendi overnight in your hair. Put in the morning and wash it in the evening.
If you are healthy and not so prone to get colds, then u can apply in the evening and wash off the next day morning.
This is a healthy way of dyeing your hair.
One important thing is, how many times in a month u wash your hair. If you very frequently wash your hair, then you may have to apply the mehendi more regularly as the colour will wash off soon.
This is a totally safe, herbal way of coloring your hair minus the side effects. Infact this mixture makes your head feel very cool and your eyes also feel cool.
Hope this tip is useful for you.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Sukanya Balasubramaniam.
Sukanya,
ReplyDeleteI tried the natural color today and it really helped me a lot. Me
and my two sons applied the color and we are very happy. Thanks again for giving us all these tips. I will check you site today. I did get all the ingredients at USA except the color indigo. I went to a couple of Indian stores. I will be going to the India market place next week end and I will try getting the indigo from there.

Hi Kala,
No need to use any color, The natural ingredients by itself are fine. Its good to know that u got all the ingredients. There is no indigo color in my ingredients, do u mean the iron vessel? Soaking in the Iron vessel for 2-3 days will give you the black color.
Are your sons having gray hair too? How old are they? Maybe you should avoid using shampoo or soap on hair, Instead use Payaru(green gram) and Mendhiyam(Fenugreek) powder. you can mix both in equal proportions and keep. This powder can be used in place of shampoo for washing your hair. Since its totally natural, its safe and the graying will slow down. Absolutely avoid hair dyes and hair colors as they will increase the graying (due to the chemicals in them, they are very harsh on the skin and hair) and slowly you will become dependant on them. Natural things are always better.
Also when oiling your hair. Make a mix of coconut oil and castor oil.Heat the oil in a small pan. Add omam and molaghu(black pepper)...this will avoid giving you a cold, let it fry and remove from flame. Allow it to become warm and apply this warm oil to your head. Castor oil is not only very cooling but also stimulates hair growth. This concoction helps for headaches and eye strains also.
Thanks and best regards,
Sukanya Balasubramaniam.
Sukanya,
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the details. My older son is 30 and younger one is
24. They don't have gray hairs yet. Since I started to get gray between the age of 35 to 37, they wanted to use these natural color now itself to prevent getting gray sooner. Also, my older son feels that his hair is getting thinner. so, he wanted to try that. My daughter-in-law is from Chennai
and my children are brought up here in USA. My daughter-in-law is also
stressing the importance to use these natural ingredients to them. Your procedures are helping me a lot and also helping them. I will start using the payatham mavu and Menthiyam mix this week end.
thank you so much.

Hi Kala,
I am happy that all are benefitted by the natural remedies at you home.
Lime helps in giving a shine to the hair.It doesnt help in hair growth.
For thinning hair
Make a mix of coconut oil(2tbsps) and castor oil(1tbsp).Heat the oil in a small pan. Add omam and molaghu(black pepper)...this will avoid giving you a cold, let it fry and remove from flame. Allow it to become warm and apply this warm oil to your head. Massage well atleast for half an hour. While massaging also gently tug at the hair. Pull it gently. Beat the scalp lightly with your palms.
Give accu-pressure points.
One point is behind the ear just below the earlobe, press hard there.with your forefinger on both sides simultanouesly
Second point is the temples. Press with your forefinger on both the temples at the same time.
Yoga helps in hair fall and graying
While watching TV you can do this simple yoga, you dont have to remove time for it.
Take your right hand and left hand and bang the tips of the fingers of your left hand with the tips of the fingers of your right hand gently. like as if jumping on tarpauline. You can do this for 5-7 minutes everyday.
Another exercise for thinning and graying hair is - Rub the nails in the fingers of your right hand with the nails in the fingers of your right hand. Brush them against each other. Do this also everyday for 5-7 minutes. Soon your son will see the results.
Do try this.......
Iam staying in singapore and making a powder of mendhiyam and green gram in the mixie was a problem as our mixer cannot take it. Finally, luckily I found a Maavu mill(a chakki) in the little india area and they charged me a bomb for powdering it. If u face the same problem and cant powder the Fenugreek(medhiyam) and Green Gram(Pacchai Paitham paruppu/green moong dal). what you can alternatively do is just soak them together overnight and in the morning beat them to a paste in the mixie and apply, wash well as they will stick to your hair...ofcourse they wont have fragrance like shampoo but they are good for health.
Iam so happy that the herbal remedies are helping you and your family.
I believe very strongly in herbal remedies.
Thanks and Best Regards,
